With Baldur’s Gate 3’s launch fast approaching, many might be wondering what are Larian Studios’ plans after the imminent release. According to a recent interview with IGN, Larian boss Swen Vincke shares that they want to release another game for the Divinity: Original Sin series.

As for how soon after can we expect them to be jumping back into the world of Rivellon? Well, not until the team has had a well-earned rest. The roughly 400 developer team have been putting their “heart and souls” into getting Baldur’s Gate 3 into 1.0. A break will be vital to keep their creativity flowing. But this is good news because it means we’ll be seeing another Divinity: Orignal Sin title sometime down the line.

It’s [Divinity: Original Sin] our own universe we built, so we’re definitely gonna get back there at some point. We will get back there at some point. We’ll first finish this one [Baldur’s Gate 3] now, and then take a break, because we will need to refresh ourselves creatively also.

Divinity and Beyond

The roleplaying series Divinity began its debut in 2002 with the game Divine Divinity. This isometric game brought hack-n-slash action with an explorable world. Beyond Divinity came in 2004, which was based on the gameplay design of Divine Divinity, but opened up in later acts. This was followed up by its sequel Divinity 2 in 2009 which definitely had some unique features such as creating your own ultimate fighting Frakenstein’s monster of sorts put together from the body parts cultivated from your battles.

Then five years later was the release of the first Divinity: Original Sin game in 2014. It came with turn-based combat, multiplayer and a more traditional RPG style. Receiving high praise, Divinity Original Sin 2 was released in 2017, followed by multiple ports and the Definitive Edition. The sequel had even more races, options for pre-made characters as well up to four in your party of characters. Embracing the pen and paper gone digital roleplaying freedom. We gave it a 9.5 which is not given lightly to any game. Cas called it “the game that everyone wants” and “simply delivers”.

Our DOS2 review gave the title a 9.5 as it “simply delivers”.

Larian’s main focus at the moment is the highly anticipated full release of Baldur’s Gate 3. Currently, in early access, players will start completely anew once version 1.0 launches on August 3rd. Boasting 17,000 endings when considering the number of outcome permeations this game is big, promising at least 75+ hours for a playthrough.
