Hook is a 4-star character, whom you can pull from the Warp. She’s a decent damage dealer who doesn’t fold as easily as the others because of her HP boosts and improved survivability. She’s more than capable of taking on the role of a secondary or sub DPS to deal burst and sustained Fire Damage. 

But she’ll need the help of other core damage dealers like Seele or Sushang, together with hybrids such as Pela or Welt to balance out the types of damage they inflict as a team. Hook will also work with support characters like Natasha, March 7th, or Gepard to live longer in combat, especially when encounters become rough.

Honkai: Star Rail Hook Build Guide – Stats And Eidolons

For this Honkai: Star Rail Hook Build, similar to the Trailblazer (Physical), Hook follows the Destruction Path, allowing her to dish out huge amounts of Fire Damage while remaining resilient in combat. Fire often spreads like wildfire and it deals damage over time (DoT) so chances are, she and her teammates can wipe out one enemy after the next with ease. To get the most out of Hook’s DPS ability, you’ll want to primarily invest in Crit Rate, Crit Damage, and Attack.

These main stats will help her perform better because the more Crit Damage she can execute, the faster she’ll slay her targets. Meanwhile, Fire Damage scales with Attack so you should be vigilant in boosting this stat as often as possible. 

For substats, you should continue raising Crit and Attack, followed by Speed and Break Effect. Speed improves the chances of going first in combat together with the frequency at which Hook attacks. The more often she gets to deal Fire Damage with the objective of inflicting Burn, the better. With DoT, her damage increases further. This stat also contributes to how fast she’ll fill the Energy gauge to activate her Ultimate Ability. On the other hand, Break Effect pertains to how effective her Fire Damage and DoT will be once the target’s Toughness goes down to 0. Having a high Break Effect allows Hook to destroy her opponents more quickly than expected.

In terms of Eidolons, it’s best to get 6 more duplicates of Hook to unlock everything. You’ll want It’s Okay to Not Know at Level 4, Always Ready to Punch and Kick at Level 6, and Happy Tummy, Happy Body at Level 2. It’s Okay to Not Know spreads the Burn effect to enemies adjacent to the main target, which results in huge DoT. For instance, she can focus on attacking the boss while incinerating the two foes beside him.  

Next is Always Ready to Punch and Kick, which incentivizes her to continue spreading the fire. Against a target affected by Burn, she deals +20% massive damage. And finally, there’s Happy Tummy, Happy Body that extends the DoT period caused by her Hey! Remember Hook? Skill from 2 to 3 turns.

Honkai: Star Rail Hook Build Guide – Skills And Traces

In this section, we’ll talk about Hook’s Skills and Traces together with what you should prioritize in combat.

• Ha! Oil to the Flames! (Talent) – This passive encourages Hook to burn as many enemies as possible, and making them prime targets for her succeeding attacks. Not only does she get to deal additional Fire Damage based on her Attack % but she’s also able to regenerate some Energy. The trace that goes well with Ha! Oil to the Flames! Is the Innocence Ability, which automatically restores a portion of her HP based on her Max HP when this is triggered. To further improve Hook’s survivability, you’ll also want to invest in the HP Boost Stat Bonus as well as the Naivete Ability. Naivete allows her to considerably resist enemy debuffs to avoid taking extra damage.

• Ack! Look at This Mess! (Technique) – This is an active technique for this Honkai: Star Rail Hook Build, that allows Hook to immediately engage in combat. When she does, there’s a chance to attack a random enemy by dealing Fire Damage. What’s more, is that she can potentially burn everyone on the battlefield for 3 turns. • Hehe! Don’t Get Burned! (Basic ATK) – This is Hook’s regular attack that lets her deal Fire Damage against a single target. Hehe! Don’t Get Burned! is pretty straightforward because it doesn’t come with any trace bonuses. She’ll resort to this Basic Attack to save 1 skill point. 
• Hey! Remember Hook? (Skill) – This is an incredible Skill because it allows Hook to concentrate her attack against single or multiple targets. When she intends to focus on 1 enemy, she can deal Fire Damage with an increased chance of inflicting Burn for 2 turns. As such, they’ll take more Fire DoT when it’s their turn to execute an action. The Enhanced Skill version of Hey! Remember Hook? will still allow Hook to deal burst damage and DoT but the values will be higher. Plus, she can deal Fire Damage against enemies standing next to the primary target. This is huge, especially once you’ve unlocked the Early to Bed, Early to Rise Eidolon to further amplify your damage by +20%! 

• Boom! Here Comes the Fire! (Ultimate) – This ultimate greatly boosts Hook Fire Damage by almost double than that of her Single Target Skill. It also enhances Hey! Remember Hook? right after triggering Boom! Here Comes the Fire! so she can destroy adjacent enemies as well. For this ultimate, you’ll want to gain access to the Playing With Fire Ability to improve the chances of attacking a second time in quick succession and to regenerate some Energy once again. 

Honkai: Star Rail Hook Build Guide – Light Cones

When it comes to Light Cones for this Honkai: Star Rail Hook Build, the ones you’ll want to chase after for Hook’s kit are Collapsing Sky, The Moles Welcome You, and On the Fall of an Aeon. Collapsing Sky is a 3-star Light Cone, which significantly boosts her burst Fire Damage when activating Hehe! Don’t Get Burned! or Hey! Remember Hook?. It’s a good Light Cone to stick around with and ascend until Level 35 max.

Next is The Moles Welcome You, a 4-star Light Cone that supports any of Hook’s abilities. So regardless of whether she’s attacking a target using her Basic Attack, Skill, or Ultimate, she gains 1 Mischievous stack. For every stack, her Attack % is boosted to once again deal greater Fire Damage. The Moles Welcome You should hold you in good stead until you manage to buy On the Fall of an Aeon via Herta’s Store for 8 Herta Bonds.

On the Fall of an Aeon is a 5-star Light Cone, which considerably boosts Hook’s Attack every time she hits an enemy. This can stack up to 4x, thereby multiplying the Attack % by this value. Honkai: Star Rail Hook Build Guide – Relics

In terms of Relics for this Honkai: Star Rail Hook Build, it’s important to remember that for the Head and Hands, your character gets a flat HP and Attack bonus, respectively. This isn’t the case for the Body and Feet, which are comprised of random stats such Crit and Speed. Ideally, you’d want to equip 4-star Relics since they provide 2-3 substats in addition to their main stat. But remember that regardless of the rating, enhancing them for every 3 levels will yield a random substat. For a Level 40 Hook, it’s enough to level up her Relics to a maximum of +6 for 4-star gear until you get their 5-star versions to reserve enough resources by then.

For Hook’s Relics, you can choose to wear the Thief of Shooting Meteor or the Firesmith of Lava-Forging 4-piece set. The Thief of Shooting Meteor considerably raises her Break Effect to deal more Fire Damage and DoT. Additionally, every time she inflicts Weakness Break, a portion of her Energy is restored. The Thief of Shooting Meteor Set can be farmed from the Cavern of Corrosion: Path of Jabbing Punch.

At later levels, you’ll gain access to the Firesmith of Lava-Forging Set. This is what you’ll want Hook to wear as you progress further in the game because of its massive boost in Fire Damage when she’s using her Hey! Remember Hook? Skill and after triggering the Boom! Here Comes the Fire! Ultimate. For the Body and Feet of either set, you’ll want to mainly roll for Crit and Attack % followed by Speed and Break Effect. 

Team Composition

In Honkai: Star Rail, you’ll have all four characters available while combat is ongoing so you won’t be swapping from one to the next. There also won’t be elemental pools left behind. Instead, you’ll focus on the enemy’s weaknesses to deplete their Toughness and HP accordingly. For this Hook Guide, I’ll be sharing the best characters to go with her and how effective their skills are for this build.

For your main DPS, you’ll want someone who will deal insane amounts of damage against single targets and the character that comes to mind is Seele who follows the Hunt Path. Seele’s ability to gain one extra turn after the next is a game-changer, especially when the target has Quantum elemental weakness. Regardless of the skill she’s using, whether it’s a Basic Attack, Skill, or Ultimate, she continues to be very effective on the battlefield. Alternatively, you can go for Dan Heng or Sushang if you intend to bombard enemies with Wind Damage Crits or massive Physical Damage.  

Next will be your support character who can be Natasha, March 7th, or Gepard. You should choose Natasha for long-winded and difficult boss encounters because she has the power to save everyone from death thanks to her Gift of Rebirth Ultimate, which heals all allies. Meanwhile, March 7th and Gepard are good at conjuring Shields and inflicting the Freeze effect to immobilize targets.

Last but not least is Pela, who will fulfill the role of a secondary or sub DPS like Hook, and a debuffer since she follows the Nihility Path. Not only does she deal sufficient Ice Damage but she can also lower the Defense rating of her targets and remove their buffs using the Zone Suppression Ultimate and Frostbite Skill, respectively. She’s an excellent character to have on the team to expose the vulnerabilities of enemies.

Final Tips

Hook is a strong 4-star character who deals considerable Fire Damage and DoT in this Honkai: Star Rail Hook Build. She’s also resilient in combat so she doesn’t need babysitting most of the time. In terms of skill rotation, you’ll want to prioritize activating her Boom! Here Comes the Fire! Ultimate to further boost her overall damage. The good thing is she has abilities that restore a portion of her Energy back to trigger this more often. Next is her Hey! Remember Hook? Skill, which can destroy a single target and his/her nearby allies. Not only does she deal huge burst Fire Damage but she can also inflict Fire DoT. And finally, there’s her Hehe! Don’t Get Burned! Basic Attack to save skill points for the rest of the team.

An alternative team setup involves replacing Pela for Welt, who is an excellent 5-star character you can pull from the Warp. He also follows the Nihility Path and is extremely adept at incapacitating targets by Imprisoning them. What’s more, is that their Speed Stat is reduced, thereby lowering their turn in the Action Order. His combos with Seele and Hook make this party deadly because of their collectively great damage and spread-out elemental specializations.

Lastly, when you manage to unlock Planetary Ornaments, you’ll want to get the Celestial Differentiator. This significantly raises Hook’s Crit Damage and Crit Rate in order to execute Crits more frequently to obliterate enemies faster.
